Spring 2014 Week 2

Already through week two and we are still trying to get a hang of things.  Since there was nearly a two month gap between the classed taught by the previous interns, and our recommencement with these students, we had to get to know them and hear their business ideas.  Thursday was our first class.  We started with an introduction of who we are, and split them into groups for them to share their ideas, and for us to check their previous homework. In all we had thirteen people. They're excited to continue developing their business plans and focusing on the details.  We have a few solid students to work with, and will get to meet with them individually in the coming weeks.

Throughout the week we were able to meet with some of the current businesses.  We spent a day out in Moche, where we met with Juan Carlos from the Panadería, who has about six months till his loan is paid in full.  After which, he will use the extra income to clean up his place, and expand his output.  He bakes bread from 11:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. everyday in order to meet the demands of local markets, and customers who work in the early mornings.  As of now, everything is going well.

We visited Jeannet Sanchez who has dairy cows and milks them every morning at 3:00am. One cow just had a calf so it hadn't been producing milk for a couple of months. Things are back to normal now and the cows are doing well so she shouldn't be having any problems.

An annual three day festival was taking  place in Trujillo this week, called "La Marinera."  On Saturday we were able to see some of the parade as they passed through La Plaza de Armas, which is the main square.  Crowds of people circled around as bands played traditional Peruvian music.
