Spring 2014 Week 1

Our fist week in Trujillo, and we have already become very busy. We spent a lot of time the first couple days archiving previous accounting records, which have stacked up over the past month, because Elena is so busy and no interns were here to help out. Besides the everyday records archiving, we were able to meet a couple of the previous students who are continually developing their business opportunities.

On Thursday, we met with Teofila, who manages La Academia. Their current goal is to expand their current after school academics program into a full-fledged school. They have already recruited three professors to work at the school. They came with the paperwork from the government, explaining the necessary construction required for safety approval.

Aurora from la carpintería came and spoke to us of the huge opportunity which just presented itself. They are putting together a bid to do the woodworks in a new school that is being constructed in their neighborhood. We with Elena helped them to figure their total expenses to present a bid to the school. This opportunity could be really beneficial to their business, as they have been having a difficult time getting clients.

We went on a tour this weekend of places surrounding Trujillo. They have some ancient ruins as well as the world's largest adobe city. In the tour we went to a city near Trujillo called Huanchaco that is famous for its surfing. It's also the most visited beach near Trujillo. We had a great time getting to know the different places. We are enjoying the work and enjoying this great place!
